In August 1981, China’s Vice Premier Gu Mu (front row, center) met with the US-Asia Institute Trade Mission to the People’s Republic of China in the Great Hall of the People. This mission was hosted by the China Council for Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). As one of Deng Xiaoping's main aides in charge of economic management, Vice Premier Gu Mu played a major role in implementing Deng's economic reform policies of the 1980s. The group traveled to Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Guangzhou, and Fuzhou.
