The US-Asia Institute joins people around the world in expressing our deepest sorrow at the passing of Senator John McCain and taking this chance to honor his commitment to developing stronger ties between the United States and Asia. In Congress, Senator McCain was a “consistent and principled voice in US policy toward Asia.”
Four years ago, Senator McCain joined USAI at a reception we held celebrating 25 years of democracy in Mongolia. His acknowledgement of Mongolia’s commitment to democracy is but one example of the immense contributions he made to foreign policy in his service to the United States.
We offer our condolences to his family, colleagues, and friends and will strive to continue our work following the example and leadership Senator McCain set out for us.
