About The Series

In the summer of 2017, the US-Asia Institute, in partnership with the US-Japan Caucus and with the help of Sasakawa USA, hosted the inaugural Japan 101 series of congressional briefings. This year, more than 200 congressional staff attended at least one Japan 101 briefing. Nearly 60 staffers received a Professional Development Certificate from USAI in recognition of their participation.

The three-session introductory series brought experts to Capitol Hill to introduce and discuss critical aspects of Japan and its strategic and economic significance. All sessions are open only to Congressional staff and include time for Q&A with the audience. Thank you to the institute’s Program Assistant, Jonathan Canfield, for all his work in developing this initiative.
