On the evening of Wednesday, July 19, the US-Asia Institute held a reception to celebrate the successful conclusion of our annual China 101 Briefing Series and to congratulate the Rule of Law students on the end of their program. The guests of honor included the congressional staff members who attended the China 101 briefings, the six Chinese students who participated in the 10th annual Matthew J. Szymanski Rule of Law program, our Professional Development Fellow Eveleen Wan, and the congressional staff members who have travelled to China with USAI. It was an evening filled with wonderful people and a fantastic spirit. Thank you to all who attended!

The second installment of the 2017 Japan 101 Briefing Series featured two experts on Japan as keynote speakers: Dr. Mireya Solis, the Philip Knight Chair in Japan Studies at the Brookings Institution, and Dr. Sheila Smith, Senior Fellow of Japan Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. The two experts spoke about Japan's economic policy and domestic politics in the wake of the ongoing changes in the East Asian region.

From July 10 to 14, the US-Asia Institute helped host the Better Hong Kong Foundation (BHKF)’s annual visit to the United States. This year's delegation, largely composed of leaders of Hong Kong’s private sector, visited Washington, D.C. and New York City to meet with prominent individuals in government, think tanks, media organizations, universities, and NGOs.

They received a professional development certificate to recognize their effort and knowledge.
